A young Ghanaian lady, Nancy Abu-Bonsrah, has become the first black woman to be trained as a neurosurgeon at top US University, Johns Hopkins medical school.

Nancy achieved this feat at last week at the prestigious university. However, BBC Africa reported that, she will be a neurosurgical resident adding that: "she will not officially be a neurosurgeon until she completes her residency in a few years.”
John Hopkins took to their Twitter handle to congratulate the young lady as they posted her picture with the caption: “Congratulations Nancy Abu-Bonsrah for making history! #Match2017.”

The proud student also posted her picture with her husband on Facebook with the caption: “What a way to begin the Sabbath! I still haven’t processed it yet but this is such a honor and a privilege to join the department at Hopkins to begin this next phase of my career. I’m so fortunate to have the continued support of my husband, family, friends and mentors. Kwabena and I are excited for what’s ahead!”

Nancy Abu-Bonsrah, who lives in Baltimore, Maryland, hails from Kumasi, Ghana. She studied Biochemistry at Mount St. Mary’s University before she stepped further and gained residency at John Hopkins Medical School.
