- The initiative will help to alleviate the health challenges associated to cancer illness in the state it was gathered that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned a screening centre in Maiduguri, Borno state.
The centre, which is the first in the state was opened with great fanfare, and many dignitaries attended.
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj Gen Mohammed Mongunu on Wednesday, April 19, commissioned the screening centre at the 105 Composite Group Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Maiduguri.
While speaking during the occasion, the NSA extolled the NAF leadership for its contributions towards the global effort at reducing the lives lost from cancers.

He said: “It is heartwarming and reassuring to see the NAF taking the lead in Nigeria in the campaign against these frightening diseases.” The deputy governor of Borno state, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa also thanked the NAF for the initiative which he said would help alleviate the health challenges associated with cancer in the state.

Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), disclosed that the centre would serve both the military and civilians in Borno.

Abubakar also said that the state of the art facilities in the centre would go a long way in helping to detect cancers at early stage and offer necessary treatment when cure is more likely to be successful in order to save life.

news gathered that the helicopters will be inducted on Saturday, April 22 at the closing ceremony of the NAF day celebration 2017, which will be held at the NAF base in Makurdi, Benue state.
